About Alain Labbe

I am a PhD graduate in Immunology for the University of Toronto. My thesis work with Dr. Christopher J. Paige focused on the study of a murine leukemia model as well as IL-12 therapy as a treatment for leukemia. I then relocated to Montréal where I joined the laboratory of Dr. Don van Meyel in the department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at McGill University. To expand my expertise in genetics and imaging, I worked on developmental neurobiology in the drosophila, specifically the maturation of glial cells and developed genetic and molecular tools for tracking these cells in the early embryo. In 2008, I joined Micropharma as a research scientist. I designed a novel nitric oxide formulation for wound healing. I executed in vitro and pre-clinical models of wound healing and antimicrobial therapies. As team leader and project manager, I worked extensively on animal protocols and assays for potential treatments for metabolic diseases, including diabetes and metabolic syndrome. I also developed metagenomic analysis tools for the quantification of bacterial genes and assays for use with an ingestible gastrointestinal device. I joined MangoGen Pharma as Director of R&D in 2015 and became CSO in 2017. MangoGen focused on a gene delivery technology using encapsulated baculoviruses. In March 2020, I joined MicroSintesis as Research Director.
