About Alan Burns

My background ranges from Defence aircraft engine technical support through project management of bulk materials (coal and ore) handling projects. I specialise in Project and Engineering management in value added maintenance and manufacturing, factory development, asset management and upgrades, safety and human factors assessment and have gained broad experience in senior management roles in transport manufacturing, business development and sales. the past 30 years has been concentrated in the rail industry in manufacturing, of rolling stock and support through Asset Management of Fleet works- Mid life, upgrades, productivity, localisation of supply chains and so on. Consulting since 2007 has led me to get "hands on" again, build a successful "niche" consultancy practice and appreciate my network of contacts in industry and government. At SCG our team are actively working to deliver better transport and infrastructure solutions in Victoria, South Australia and now in Queensland. My mission and passion is to advocate and contribute to the expansion of engineering related industry in Australia, deliver better regulations and lessen red tape, help innovation to thrive and be a thought leader in enterprise and infrastructure development.
