About Alan Calder

I am an Adjunct Senior Lecturer with James Cook University (JCU). My current role involves assisting the Dean Learning, Teaching and Student Engagement to support JCU staff in the process of applying for JCU and Office of Learning and Teaching (OLT) citations for outstanding contributions to student learning. In my previous role as Manager, Teaching and Learning Development I managed the services and projects delivered from the Cairns campus. I had specific responsibility for the JCU Professional College, the Student Mentor Program including the Indigenous Student Mentor Program, and the Cairns Learning Centre with key interests in the areas of academic language and learning support, First Year Experience, peer support, collaborative learning spaces and learning communities. I maintain contact with staff in these areas and provide advice and assistance when required. I am an active member of the Association for Academic Language and Learning (AALL).
