About Alan Chow

Alan Chow is Coordinator of Undergraduate Research and Professor in the Marketing, Supply Cain Management and Analytics Department of the Mitchell College of Business at the University of South Alabama. He teaches undergraduate courses in statistics, operations management, total quality management, service management, and quality improvement.Alan has his Ph.D. in Instructional Design and Development at the University of South Alabama and both B.S. and M.S. degrees in Quantitative Business Analysis from Louisiana State University, where he was a member of the Omega Rho National Honor Society for Operations Research. He also has a B.S. in Economics and Finance from the University of South Alabama. He has additional training in Design of Experiments (Taguchi and Shainin), Quality Improvement Systems (Crosby), and Quality Systems Management (ASQ). He is a senior member of the American Society for Quality and an ASQ Certified Six Sigma Black Belt.Alan spent the better part of two decades helping companies reduce variation and improve quality in regulated industries. He focused equally between implementation and application of quality improvement systems and tools, and training, educating, and leading others to do the same. He trained hundreds of employees, clients and students in Quality Systems, Continuous Improvement/Six Sigma tools, and mathematical/statistical applications.Alan spent a considerable part of his career developing compliant Quality Systems in industries regulated by the Food and Drug Agency (FDA), the Department of Defense (DoD), the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA), and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Alan has also consulted with numerous companies in various industries, providing customized training and facilitation of Six Sigma tools and applications, and providing direction and expertise in the areas of process improvement and quality management systems.Specialties: Quality Improvement (ASQ Six Sigma Black Belt)Instructional Design and Development Specific emphasis on teaching statistics and mathematics.
