About Alan Cumming

I am a research scientist with 13+ years of experience researching advanced telescope hardware for gravitational wave telescopes, strong communication skills, with invited collaboration tasks, and 6 first author peer reviewed scientific papers published. I am experienced in leading key projects in multiple international collaboration team projects in UK, Germany, and USA as well as designing hardware, building and testing prototypes, and constructing and analysing computer simulations of this hardware. I enjoy the process of working through and solving an unresolved scientific or engineering problem, using both my practical and analytical skills to build quick test prototypes, measuring their capability, using this to advance to final working designs. As part of my role, I am mentoring PhD students through their experimental work, teaching the necessary skills for them to become capable independent scientists. I have strong internal drive to do the best possible for any task, both work or leisure, evidenced with my model making hobby skills where I thrive and enjoy pushing myself to achieve the highest possible standards.
