About Alan Lessig

As an award-winning documentary filmmaker and photojournalist, I’m driven by a mission to bridge the gap between science, culture, and human stories—using the power of visual media to educate, inspire, and ignite meaningful conversations. Throughout my career, I’ve captured untold narratives—whether embedding with U.S. forces in war zones, documenting Austin’s vibrant mural art scene, or unraveling the mysteries of the Sun for PBS audiences. I was part of the small team that created Defense News Weekly, a TV news program that informs global audiences about international defense and security. My background includes embedding with U.S. forces in Iraq and contributing to Pulitzer Prize-winning local news coverage. These experiences have shaped my ability to craft visually compelling narratives that inform, evoke empathy, and deepen understanding. As the Supervising Editor and one of three videographers for Muraling Austin, I helped craft the visual narrative that earned the series a Lone Star Emmy and two Telly Awards for its celebration of Austin’s mural art culture. Currently, I’m the Supervising Editor and videographer for Touching the Sun, a PBS documentary that explores the science of the Sun, its cultural significance in Indigenous communities, and the future of solar technologies. By blending vivid imagery with expert insights, I’m bringing complex ideas to life across multiple platforms. Whether capturing the awe of a solar eclipse, exploring the intersection of science and culture, or highlighting human resilience in conflict zones, I am committed to producing content that resonates both visually and emotionally—stories that leave a lasting impact on audiences worldwide
