About Alan Madej

From 1987 to 2015, Alan worked at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC, Ottawa) in the field of laser physics, precision measurements, atomic clocks, and trapped ion optical frequency standards. His work has been at the forefront in research of optical frequency standards and optical atomic clocks. During these years, he rose to the highest scientific research grade at the NRC and received the NRC outstanding achievement award in 1998. He has published 60 Refereed journal papers, 65 other publications, 121 Conference contributions and 73 presentations at Conferences, University Colloquia, Summer Schools, and Research Laboratories. Alan has been a research member of a network centre of excellence via the Canadian Institute for Photonic Innovations from1998 to 2020, he has been a University Adjunct Professor in Physics at York University (Toronto). Also, from 2010 he has been a University Adjunct professor in Physics at the University of Ottawa. Through these positions, he has supervised 5 post-doctoral fellows, 3 graduate students and over 15 summer research assistants. Alan has served on numerous international and national committees dealing with Physics and Measurement Science. He has been on the International Consultative committee for Length (CCL) from 1996-2006, the Joint International working group (CCL/CCTF) on Frequency Standards from 2006 to 2015 and the International consultative committee for Time and Frequency (CCTF) from 2008 to 2012. He was Division Chair, Division of Atomic and Molecular Physics and Photon Interactions (DAMPhi) in the Canadian Association of Physicists (2006-2007). he has also served on the program committees of over a dozen national and international scientific conferences including chairing one international and one national conference.
