About Alan Reed

I am a Consultant Biophysicist within the Life Sciences division at TTP plc, where I work on challenging, multidisciplinary projects for a broad range of clients. I previously completed a PhD at the University of Warwick, funded by the Synthetic Biology CDT. My PhD project involved a combination of microfluidics, optical microscopy and image analysis, using all of these to develop techniques that facilitate single-cell measurements of yeast cell populations over time. Prior to my PhD, after completing an undergraduate degree in Physics at Oxford University I was employed for two years as an engineer at Cambridge Consultants. During my time there I worked on a broad range of projects, primarily in the general field of embedded systems. Since leaving Cambridge Consultants I have maintained an interest in this area in my spare time, and have completed various personal projects building off of the skills that I developed during my time there. I won second place in a competition run by Element14 in 2020 for a custom car window controller that I designed, and successfully completed a HackadayU course in 2021 that culminated in the development of a composite video peripheral for the Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller.
