About Alan Ryan
Alan is a lecturer in the School of Engineering in the University of Limerick. I lecture in the area of Supply Chain, Automation and Quality Management while my research areas focus on process engineering and optimisation, with environmental and sustainability influences. My background is as a Manufacturing Engineer, where I worked as a process/research engineer with a large multinational organisation for a number of years. Following this I went on to work as an Automation Research Fellow in the University of Limerick, before commencing as a lecturer. I am a member of Engineers Ireland, have developed new systems and technologies which have been patented and licenced to spin-out companies. I jointly led UL’s admission into the CDIO community, which is a move towards making engineering lecturing more problem based.
