About Alan Smith

I have worked in the motor and transport industry since 2007. After completing my apprenticeship as a vehicle technician in 2012, I began a part time bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology & Diagnostics which I completed in 2015. In 2017, I began a part-time degree in Business and Management which was completed in 2021. This course provided valuable insight and education into various aspects of business including finance, strategy formulation and implementation, Information Technology, business operations and future trends. I have been working with the Electricity Supply board since 2014 and my current role is involved with ESB’s largest workshop and a fleet of over LCV’s, HCV’s and pieces of equipment. Organization and planning are crucial to ensure strict deadlines are met to provide the required network support. Knowledge of vehicle safety standards laid out by both the RSA and HSE, are vital to ensure vehicle compliance is maintained. Communication, scheduling of work and auditing of contractors is carried out to ensure that repairs and maintenance are carried out to a high standard. This is aided by having good IT skills backed up by ECDL and advanced Excel certificates.
