About Alan Yang

As the in-house Visualization Specialist at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography Games group (SIO GAMES), I work with a range of high-level scientists (e.g, oceanographers, seismologists and big-data specialists) to explore novel ways to convey scientific information and allow anyone to explore real-time multidimensional data online. I am the lead developer on virtual reality (VR) projects and part of the SIO GAMES team collective who's mission is to create and design educational games pertaining to geoscience, which entices students of all ages to ignite their creativity and develop their scientific curiosity. Our team develops educational video games for use in programs at the local level (i.e, the Birch Aquarium at Scripps and annually for ~24 venues throughout the San Diego region) and nationally (i.e, the Smithsonian). My background that encompass both art and science, positions me to be one of the earliest adopters of new technologies, User Interface design and cutting edge programming tools for use in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) based interdisciplinary activities.
