About Alani van

Growing up in an unconventional family structure residing with a large extended family and 18 younger cousins, supporting families to identify and utilize their inherent strengths has been a very large part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a Vietnamese-speaking Social Worker, I possess extensive experience working with immigrant youth and their families from diverse ethno-racial and socioeconomic backgrounds. With my strong belief in fostering positive family systems coupled with my diverse working experiences supporting families within the mental health and child welfare sectors, I am well-equipped to provide cultural-sensitive, family-centred mental health care. I have a strong knowledge base of the recreational, academic and emotional needs of children and youth developed through designing and implementing several community youth leadership groups and workshops. I strongly believe in the power of recreation and community engagement in building character and potential in youth. Additionally, I am experienced in performing family counselling on the CAMH Youth Concurrent Disorders Unit and child welfare work in fostering family strengths and building loving homes. I am deeply interested in applying my knowledge of family systems, dynamics, and interactions to support families in fostering positive childhood experiences. I would to love to work collaboratively with families to ensure the wellness for children and promote their existing potential to achieve anything. Anything is possible.
