About Alas Cotita

The majority of my career has been dedicated to various roles within Higher Education, with a passion for advancing student records and credentials. My journey began at Missouri S&T, where I gained valuable experience in event planning and asset management. Currently, I serve as Lead Business Owner and Project Manager at Western Governors University (WGU), where I’ve had the privilege of driving key initiatives, such as the WGU Achievement Wallet. As a proud three-time WGU graduate, with degrees in Business Management (BS), Business Administration - Human Resources Management (BS), and Management and Leadership (MS), I’m now pursuing my fourth degree in Data Analytics (BS). My personal commitment to lifelong learning fuels my work as I advocate for the transformation of academic records into learner-owned, skills-denominated digital credentials. I am passionate about empowering students to take control of their educational journey through Learner Employment Records (LERs) and the use of Credential Transparency Description Language (CTDL). I spearheaded the effort to publish all of WGU’s curriculum to the Credential Registry, playing a pivotal role in making our data transparent and accessible—an effort I’m immensely proud of. With my background in Student Records and a keen interest in data analytics, I now work in Academic Strategic Initiatives (ASI), continuing to shape the future of student records, ensuring that students have the tools to own, customize, and share their achievements in a way that best represents their personal brand.
