As an electrical engineer and now senior technologist I investigate all electrical protection trips and deviations. Getting involve with fault investigations on electrical networks, I capture disturbance recordings on the new generation protection relay, analysing it with software and conduct a conclusion of the origin of the electrical fault. give recommendations, change incorrect designs and protection settings. I'm also responsible to keep a data base up to date of all trips and relay failures to keep track on how well the electrical protection systems at Sasol Synfuels Secunda site is performing. I am the engineering support member to Electrical Test Department. My daily duties consist of factory and site acceptance tests on Low Voltage, Medium Voltage and High Voltage protection systems and switchgear. Other daily duties is schedule protection system maintenance of a large install base protection devices ranging from old electromechanical protection relays to the latest protection relays. I'm also giving training to co-workers, learner artisans, learner technicians/technologist and learner engineers. Other day task is testing of transformers, motors, cables and electrical fault finding duties on any electrical system
