About Albert Steenekamp

I am an HR professional with a drive to always keep learning, a passion for problem solving, and a deep appreciation of people. I have experience working in a range of industries where I have leveraged my curiosity, big picture thinking, and excellent communication skills to get the job done. My current role sees me providing customer service on HR related requests for employees of a large, complex organization. My team collaborates with other teams across the People and Capability Directorate to ensure that employee requests go where they need to. I work with the HRIS, Microsoft 365, and other software systems to process administration of people information. I also draft and review employment documents and use Excel to report on people data. Knowledge and understanding of Employment Law and the Privacy Act helps me ensure that documents are consistent with law and policy, and that sensitive data is handled appropriately. I also do contracting to support business administration work. This includes redesigning and reformatting documents and presentations, schedule management, invoicing and claiming expenses, and social media marketing. Earlier in my career I worked in youth work, mental health, and the pharmaceutical industry. I've developed many skills along this varied pathway. I've also clarified my long term career goals: to work at a strategic level in a role that requires strong people skills, as well as systems thinking and process improvement. I'm interested in how people and systems interact, and how systems can be improved to make them more accessible and engaging to the user.
