About Alberto Pezzi

Cluster practitioner and competitive strategy expert with over 20 years of experience in cluster-based economic development and competitiveness reinforcement initiatives in over 20 industries. I am Director of Competitive Strategy at the Directorate General for Industry - ACCIÓ of the Goverment of Catalonia and I have been recently appointed as member of the Commission Expert Group on Clusters of the European Commission DG GROW. Formed initially as strategic consultant in international firms, I have dedicated the last 15 years to the design and implementation of public policies for improving regional competitiveness using cluster-based initiatives. In 1998 I was among the promoters and the first manager of TCI NETWORK (the global leading network of cluster practitioners tci-network.org) and between 2003 and 2019 I served pro-bono in the Board of Directors, as secretary, president and treasurer. In October 2019 I have been appointed as member of the Board of Advisors joining TCI founding fathers, past presidents and relevant personalities in the field of cluster development and competitiveness. In the last decade, I have been actively involved in different advisory groups at European level (TACTICS and European Forum for Clusters and Emerging Industries) and, since October 2019, I have been appointed as member of the Commission Expert Group on Clusters created by DG GROW. As cluster and regional strategy global expert I have spoken in international events in over 40 countries and I have co-authored 3 books, different articles and case-studies on cluster policy and practice and I enjoy sharing my knowledge collaborating with different universities, international organizations and with the European Foundation for Cluster Excellence. I am committed to cluster excellence as benchmarking expert (gold) of the European Secretariat for Cluster Analysis in Berlin and as members of the European Cluster Collaboration Platform support group. I hold a BSc in Economics by the Università di Bologna (Italy), a Master in Economic, Law and Politics of the European Union from the European College of Parma (Italy) and a Postgraduate diploma in Economic History and Institutions from the Universitat Autonòma de Barcelona (Spain). My working languages are English, Catalan, Spanish and I have wide command of French while Italian is my native language.
