About Alec Dalessandro
I currently working in Terry Lechler's lab at Duke studying desmosomes in skin cells. We are interested to know which proteins are enriched at desmosomes, and how desmosomes could serve as organizing centers for cellular processes like translation and metabolism. As a former member of the Lew lab, I studied the timing of cell polarity in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Specifically, I used yeast genetics and a biochemical approach to investigate the regulation of the Rho GTPase Cdc42 through its guanine nucleotide exchange factor, GTPase activating proteins, and effectors. I entered Duke through the Cell and Molecular Biology program and affiliated with the department of Cell Biology.
