About Alec Estrada

I’m a contractor microbiologist with previous experience working in the the US Food and Drug Administration - Center for Food Sciences and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN)- Microbial Methods and Development Branch (MMDB). I have experience in using food and environmental sample matrices to screen for food-borne pathogens such as E. Coli(STEC) and Salmonella spp. with cultural, qRT-PCR, IMS and NGS sequencing techniques. My educational focus will be in the sphere of public health and bio-terrorism prevention. My intention is to use this Public Health graduate degree to become communicable disease investigator to coordinate outbreak response in disadvantaged and historically marginalized communities such as the LGBTQ+, Latinx/Afro-American, and indigenous tribespeople. My professional goal is to be a researcher in biosecurity and biocontainment of emerging pathogens.
