About Aleena Durrani

I am a recent graduate of Applied Biosciences from NUST Islamabad, driven by a passion for research and sustainability. With over 1500 hours of research experience in industrial biotechnology, regenerative medicine, and integrative biology, I have gained practical skills in nanotechnology, cell culture, antimicrobial peptide engineering, and microbial genomics.During my time working in regenerative medicine labs, I was fascinated by the incredible potential of stem cells and their ability to work wonders. This experience has honed my skills in cell culture, enabling me to contribute effectively to the field. Additionally, as an intern with the Integrative Biology Laboratory (iBG) and the Microbial Genomics and Bioinformatics (MGB) Research Group at NUST's Atta-ur-Rehman School of Applied Biosciences (ASAB), I focused on disulfide engineering of antimicrobial peptides, aiming to combat the global challenge of antibiotic resistance.During my 5th and 6th semesters, I was engaged in a project examining biochar's impact on soil microbial communities and nutrient presence. As an environmental activist, I am dedicated to carbon sequestration and using biochar as a solution to mitigate the rising Earth's temperature. Moreover, I am a Finalist in the prestigious Finding Innovative & Creative Solutions for Society (FICS).My final year project focused on developing a dual-approach biosensor, which deepened my interest in biosensor technologies and their applications in healthcare. My research experience, particularly in disulfide engineering of antimicrobial peptides and microbial genomics, has further developed my skills and sparked a growing interest in sustainable solutions, particularly in environmental biotechnology.As I look ahead to graduate studies, I am eager to explore further opportunities in research that align with my passion for sustainability and biosciences.
