About Alef Brito

I'm specialized in international cooperation, sustainable development and structuring of carbon market monetization projects. Based in Rio de Janeiro, I'm dedicated to scaling up opportunities and business development in Brazil’s carbon market. With nearly 8 years of hands-on experience in sustainability projects within the Amazon and other Brazilian sectors, my experience include collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on the Amazon Fund/BNDES cooperation project. In my present role as a business development professional at South Pole, my focus is on identifying and advancing carbon projects and providing carbon monetization assessments in the NBS space and other carbon-intensive sectors. My objective is to pinpoint high-quality initiatives that not only align with environmental sustainability but also strategically contribute to the growth and impact of the Brazilian carbon market. This entails a meticulous approach to project evaluation, ensuring that identified initiatives are aligned with the country’s needs and opportunities. At GIZ Brazil, I supported the project Amazon Fund for Forest Conservation and Climate Protection, where I worked on the implementation, coordination and evaluation of the Fund’s projects. Moreover, I assisted in the improvement of MRV systems through the development of indicators and operational manuals. Moreover, I was in charge of preparing studies and manuals on carbon markets, climate finance mechanisms, and human rights and gender issues (supporting GIZ Brazil’s gender strategy), for Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) on several sectors, but with a focus in the NBS space.I hold a BSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Brasilia, a BSc in Environmental Biological Sciences from the Universität Trier (Germany) through Brazil’s Science without Borders scholarship program, and an MSc in Protected Areas’ Biodiversity from the National School of Tropical Botany in Rio de Janeiro.
