About Alejandra Flores

For nearly ten years, I have worked in the nonprofit, public sector, and government communications space, supporting mission-driven organizations that uplift historically disinvested communities. Currently, as Senior Director of Strategic Communications at Elevate, I lead both internal and external communications strategies, advising Elevate’s Executive Leadership Team and CEO. I oversee a team of eight communications professionals and guide efforts in design, earned media, paid advertisement, social media strategy, videography, and storytelling. My work centers on developing campaigns that advance Elevate’s clean energy goals in the nonprofit and public sectors. Prior to this, as Director of Communications, I was responsible for creating successful internal and external communications strategies and digital campaigns. I managed content development—including blogs, success stories, videos, and social media—and planned earned and paid media at hyperlocal, local, and national levels. Additionally, I built strategic partnerships and helped grow a high-functioning communications team. I am also a registered lobbyist, advocating for policy changes that align with our mission and building key relationships with stakeholders. Before joining Elevate, I served as Press Secretary for the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Illinois, Juliana Stratton, where I worked on initiatives such as justice system reform, addressing food insecurity, and women’s empowerment through financial literacy. I also served as Deputy Press Secretary to Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot, strengthening relationships with local, state, and national press while liaising between 11 City departments and community stakeholders. Earlier in my career, I supported communications at SEIU Local 1, a major labor union, where I developed strategies for public relations across the Midwest. My passion for advocacy grew at the Community Activism Law Alliance (now Beyond Legal Aid), where I supported operations and helped elevate their social media and marketing efforts. Throughout my career, I have leveraged strategic communications to drive meaningful change, advocate for disinvested communities, and create impact through storytelling and relationship-building.
