About Alejandro Cedeno

Alejandro is the Acting Director of Multilateral and International Affairs, External and Corporate Relations Vice Presidency at the World Bank (since January 16, 2023). In his current position, he oversees and coordinates the World Bank’s program of engagement with multilateral partners, including the United Nations and the European Commission, and the communications team supporting the Development Finance/IDA Vice Presidency. Previously, he was the Advisor to the Director of Multilateral and International Affairs, in the same unit (July 1, 2022). Prior to that, he was the Communications / External Affairs Manager for the East Asia and the Pacific (EAP) Region (Jan 2017-June 2022). In that position, Alejandro was responsible for managing the planning, development, and implementation of effective communications and outreach strategies to support the World Bank’s corporate, internal, and operational activities in the EAP Region. He led an extended team of communications professionals across the Region which provides strategic support to World Bank financed operations; builds capacity and provides technical support to key government counterparts, program and project implementers; provides communications guidance, analysis and advice to regional and country management teams; and strengthens strategic relationships and alliances with key influencers in government, civil society, media, academia, and other stakeholders to build support for the World Bank’s work in the Region and in EAP countries. That involved working closely with World Bank Group Senior Management and staff, the Board of Executive Directors, and EAP stakeholders. Before he served as Country Program Coordinator for Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine in the Europe and Central Asia Region (2013-2017) where he acted as a Deputy to the Director and was responsible to coordinate a US$4.5 billion World Bank program in those three countries. Before that position, he was the Special Assistant to the Regional Vice President for East Asia and Pacific Region (2012-2013) and to the Regional Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean Region (2010-2011). Alejandro joined the World Bank in January 2006, leading the Bank's communications strategy and program in 15 Caribbean countries and Central America.
