About Alejandro Garzon

I am a researcher with experience in the mathematical modeling of electrical activity in cardiac tissue through partial differential equations (PDEs). My research is aimed at understanding the onset of cardiac arrhythmias and developing procedures for their suppression. To that end, I have programmed (C, C++, Matlab, Python, OpenCL for graphics processing units) numerical algorithms to perform efficiently the following tasks on PDEs: solution of initial value problems, bifurcation analysis of periodic solutions, feedback control, and optimization of a cost functional measuring the response of the PDE to an external stimulus. I also have experience in stochastic modeling applied to the analysis of experiments in nuclear physics. In particular, I wrote a software for measuring the lifetimes of nuclear states by the Doppler shift attenuation method (DSAM). The software simulates the processes taking place in a DSAM experiment and generates theoretical spectra of the energies of gamma rays emitted by the nuclei. Additionally, I have been involved in the thermal analysis of a proposed design for an Earth-orbiting nano-satellite. The analysis intends to predict the on-orbit temperatures of the satellite parts, simulating the heat transfer by conduction and radiation between them and from the environment. I would like to continue working in the mathematical modeling of physical systems and learning new subjects in applied mathematics.
