About Alejandro Jara

Alejandro Jara is a Research Advisor of the Financial Studies Department at the Central Bank of Chile. He began his career at the Central Bank of Chile in 2001. Until 2007 he served as Head of the Group of Financial Institutions, where he contributed to the development of the Financial Stability Report and the implementation of stress tests to the banking sector in Chile. Between 2008-2010 he served as Senior Economist in the Office for the Americas of the Bank for International Settlements in Mexico City, contributing to the coordination and training of the central banks of the region, through various activities organized by the BIS, CEMLA and the BIS Financial Stability Institute. He resumed his activities at the Central Bank of Chile in 2010 as Group Leader of the External Sector and later as Senior Economist of the Financial Research Department. His academic interests have focused on the subject of capital flows, financial stability and the role of macroprudential policies. Alejandro studied undergraduate at the University of Chile and postgraduate at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he obtained his Master's and Doctorate in Economics. His research papers have been published in academic journals, books and various documents of the Central Bank of Chile and the BIS.
