He co-founded DaVerse Lounge and was part of an ensemble presentation at TEDxSMU on The Power of Voice. His performances include the National Facing Race Conference, the Embrey Human Rights Program’s inaugural Triumph of the Spirit Award Ceremony, and the National Performance Network’s 25th Anniversary Meeting in Dallas. He has also graced stages at the Dallas Museum of Art’s Reciprocity Arts Café and the legendary Nuyorican Poets Café in New York City. As a workshop facilitator, Alejandro has taught at University of North Texas, Southern Methodist University, Texas A&M, Texas Christian University, Louisiana State University, and Mountain View College, as well as for the Baker Idea Institute at the Dallas Children’s Theater. A seasoned recording artist, he has collaborated with Erykah Badu and Poet Kalamu Ya Salaam and shared performance space with Haki Madhubuti, Bob Marley’s band The Wailers, Souljah, and many more. In education, Alejandro has served as a life coach for young adults and teens and is an experienced early childhood educator. He has taught at East Dallas Community School (Bilingual Montessori) and Africa Care Academy (ACA) in Dallas, where he was named 2002 ACA Teacher of the Year. Alejandro has also co-produced Dallas I.S.D.’s New Teacher Academy during the last five years of its inception. A Contra-Mestre of Capoeira Angola de São Bento Grande, he has been a leader in the practice for over 15 of his 25 years of training. His chapter, Dallas Malandros, continues to uphold the art’s traditions. He also served as Dramaturge, Fight Choreographer, and Actor (Pastor) in the TACA grant-winning production Circe: Song of Benedito by Prism Movement Theater (2023-2024). Above all, Alejandro takes pride in being a father, family man, and lifelong servant-leader.
