About Alessandro Borri

I am currently a Senior Researcher at the Biomathematics Laboratory (BioMatLab), Institute for Systems Analysis and Computer Science “A. Ruberti”, Italian National Research Council (CNR-IASI), in Rome, Italy. My research interests currently include hybrid systems, automotive control, systems/synthetic biology, biomedical applications. Before joining CNR-IASI in April 2012, I received my B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees (summa cum laude), both in Computer and Control Engineering, and my Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Information Engineering (grade excellent), from the University of L’Aquila, Italy, in 2004, 2007 and 2011, respectively. After an internship at the Ford Motor Company in Aachen, Germany (in 2007), I spent research periods at the University of California, Berkeley (in 2008-09) and Santa Barbara (in 2009-10), and at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm (in 2011). In 2011-12 I was a Post-doctoral Researcher at the Centre of Excellence DEWS, University of L’Aquila, Italy, where I currently hold an external affiliation and where I an an adjunct professor of Modeling and Simulation. I have been a member of and Control Systems Society since 2009 and I am currently a member of the Technical Committees on Healthcare & Medical Systems and on Automotive Controls. I co-authored fifty peer-reviewed international publications and I participated in five EU-FP7 funded projects. I am currently involved in the CISAS project, funded by the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research. In 2012, I achieved the International Curriculum Option of Doctoral Studies in Networked, Embedded, and Hybrid Control Systems for Complex, Distributed and Heterogeneous Systems. I co-organized the minisymposium “Recent trends in the modeling and control of the glucose-insulin system” at ECMTB (European Conference on Mathematical and Theoretical Biology), Lisbon, July 2018. Recently, I achieved the Premium Award 2018 for Best Paper in IET Systems Biology.
