About Alessandro Marrone

I am the Head of the Defence, Security and Space Programme at Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) in Rome, the largest and leading Italian think tanks dealing with international affairs, where I have been nicely working for the last 19 years. Between 2014 and 2018, I have also had the pleasure to teach Strategic Studies at Perugia University, one of the oldest academia in Italy, prior to begin teaching Military Policy at the yearly course of Istituto Superiore di Stato Maggiore Interforze (ISSMI) at the Italian Ministry of Defence. I hold a PhD as historian from La Sapienza University of Rome, as well as a MSc in International Relations from LSE where I spent one extraordinary year. I am also a LUISS Guido Carli alumnus, since I got both bachelor and master degrees in that university in Rome, where I moved from my hometown L'Aquila. As I love writing, I am a member of the editorial board of AffarInternazionali webmagazine, and I collaborate with several other magazines such as AirPress, Aspenia, EastWest, Formiche, Huffington Post, Rivista Italiana Difesa and Rivista Marittima. I also quite often participate in radio and tv news programs, and I am interviewed by press. I am mostly interested in security and defence issues in Europe and the Mediterranean region, EU, NATO, US, Italian defence and foreign policy, armed forces, defence industry and market. Beside research, teaching and journalism, theatre remains my greatest passion.
