About Alex Bilodeau

Alex has been involved in the arts as a musician, educator, and administrator for over a decade. He graduated in 2019 with a Master’s in Jazz Performance from New England Conservatory. Alex currently resides in Austin TX and serves as an adjunct professor at Temple College. In his professional career, he has had a wide range of experience as a performing musician, Juror for Canada and Ontario Arts Council, music curator, and educator.While at New England Conservatory, Alex was privileged to study with acclaimed bassists and artists such as Dave Holland, Cecil McBee, Drew Gress, Miguel Zenon, Jerry Bergonzi, Jason Moran, Billy Hart, and Dominique Eade. He has performed with internationally renowned musicians including Ethan Iverson, Miguel Zenon, Jean Michel Pilc, Ephraim Owens, Andre Hayward, Atlantis Jazz Ensemble, and Sean Jones.His professional skills awarded him on the board of the Canada and Ontario Arts Council as a juror. Alex served as an advisor to administer grants to working musicians, composers, and students in Canada. Members of the Arts Council and Alex allocated funding for projects ranging from music creation, commissions, songwriting, music education, youth arts programs, and recording projects. These opportunities have taught him how to manage budgets and use resources in the most effective way possible.While studying at New England Conservatory, Alex was selected to work for the Community Performances and Partnerships program (CPP). Alex worked with Massachusetts area schools, homeless shelters, senior residences, and hospitals to provide concerts, educational music classes, and improvisation masterclasses. As a teaching fellow for the CPP program Alex worked for the El Sistema String Department at Bridge Boston Charter School where he taught private lessons and worked with double bass students in the orchestras. Alex was involved in CPP’s Songwriting Workshop, where he went into a children’s psychiatric ward and helped children compose original songs. In 2019 Alex was selected as guest artist and performer at the Virginia Arts Festival and the Panama Jazz Festival. At these festivals, Alex provided concerts and educational music classes for wide-ranging audiences. These experiences have allowed Alex to work with a wide range of people in the community and to program compelling music events.
