About Alex Chavez

I am a dedicated researcher and aspiring counseling psychologist passionate about advancing equity and inclusion through innovative research. My work has focused on addressing systemic disparities in higher education for underrepresented populations, and I aim to expand this focus to mental health care. My research interests include examining how intersectionality, stigma, and discrimination shape mental health, access to care, and access to higher education. I am particularly drawn to exploring education as a social determinant of health and investigating how intersectional experiences impact psychopathology and help-seeking behaviors. I aim to design culturally responsive, evidence-based assessments and interventions that address systemic barriers and support equitable opportunities in education and mental health care. With experience in intervention design, scale development, and both qualitative and quantitative methods, I strive to ensure these solutions are applicable across diverse cultural and intersectional contexts. Ultimately, I aspire to drive systemic change through research that fosters inclusivity and empowers marginalized populations.
