About Alex Collier

I completed a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree with First Class Honours, majoring in Economics at the University of Auckland in 2008.As well as Economics I have also studied several papers in Maths and Statistics and am interested in pursuing a career where I will be able to put these skills to use in real life situations.Between 2003 and 2009 I had various vacation jobs at Fisher & Paykel Finance which have given me valuable experience in data entry and working in a team.From September 2009 to June 2011 I was employed on a fixed term contract at Housing New Zealand Corporation as an Assistant Policy Analyst. This involved writing various reports and briefings analysing trends and developments in the housing sector.From September 2011 to December 2011 I was employed on a short fixed term contract at the Ministry of Economic Development as a Graduate Economist. This was for a specific project. In this role I produced research on the benefits to the NZ economy of the NZ film industry.From March 2012 to April 2013 I was employed, on a fixed term contract, in the Building and Housing Group at the new Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (formerly Department of Building and Housing). This role was largely focussed on quantitative data analysis. My main work was on the monthly Key Indicator Reports which are published here: was responsible for all of the graphs and data and most of the writing for these reports.I have strong knowledge and experience in using Microsoft Excel. I am also trained in MapInfo and SQL and this role has provided me with vast experience in using both. Since April 2013 to September 2015, I was employed, on a permanent basis, as a research analyst at Superu (formerly known as Families Commission).Since October 2015 I have been employed on a permanent basis as a Financial Analyst in the Revenue Forecasting team at Inland Revenue. This role has a strong focus on data analysis, revenue forecasting, policy costings and modelling.
