About Alex Cook

USMC veteran (2009-2014) with military and civilian workforce experience. Served 3 years with Marine Corps Security Force Battalion, Bangor (MCSFBN-Bangor). This position included certification in the DoD PRP/NPRP program and maintaining an active secret security clearance. Became knowledgeable in DoD special access programs, maintained OPSEC and COMSEC training and capabilities, expanded responsibilities to a team leader qualified position. Responsibilities included physical security, compartmentalization of sensitive information, implementation of secure data transmission, convoy route clearance and security, and protection of naval strategic assets. Upon leaving MCSFBN, I was transferred to 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines in Camp Pendleton, CA to finish my 5-year active duty contract. Here I deployed on the 31st MEU with Fox Company as part of a boat raid company based out of Camp Hanson on the island of Okinawa, Japan. This deployment focused on implementation of boat raid tactics in conjunction with foreign allies such as Australia and the Japanese JSDF. Upon returning from the 31st MEU, Fox Company was flown to Singapore to train for 1 month in operations beside the Singapore Guards Battalion for my final training evolution before receiving an honorable discharge. After separating from active service, I immediately transitioned into an associate degree program at North Lake College in Irving, TX. I then transferred into a bachelor's program at Stephen F. Austin State University where I received a BS in geology with a GIS minor. I went straight into SFA's graduate geology program where my focus has been hydrology, karst development, and geochemistry. I expect to complete my master's degree by the end of 2022. My work experiences after the military have been highly varied giving me a very diverse skillset and proving my adaptability to a multitude of roles. Key experience and skills include management and leadership experience, sales both on a departmental and corporate level, construction oversight, inspection and code enforcement, client communication and relationship building, interpersonal communication, asset protection, data management, information security, physical security, OPSEC/COMSEC, security oversight, adaptability, and stress management.
