About Alex Farmer

Hi! I'm a passionate and driven Software Engineer with a strong foundation in computer science and hands-on experience in building innovative applications and tools. Currently pursuing a B.S.E. in Computer Science at the University of Michigan, I have had the opportunity to gain diverse software engineering experience through internships, hackathons, and team projects. During my recent internship at Charles Schwab, I developed a REST API debugging tool to enhance developer efficiency and worked on the thinkorswim trading platform, collaborating across teams to improve functionality and performance. I’ve also built a full-stack, no-code survey builder for large-scale medical trials at the University of Michigan Medicine, implementing a robust authentication system that enables national-scale integration for medical institutions. Beyond internships, I have enjoyed building complex, real-world applications with student teams. Notably, our award-winning Boogie Battle hackathon project used Unity, OpenCV, and Mediapipe for real-time movement tracking, alongside an optimized language model for live commentary. I am also actively developing VisionEarth, an Apple Vision Pro app utilizing Google Street View data to create immersive street walkthroughs. With proficiency in languages including Python, C++, Swift, and CUDA, and hands-on experience with tools like PyTorch, JAX, AWS, and Firebase, I am eager to apply my skills to projects that make a meaningful impact.
