About Alex Fertig

I am completing my doctorate in Chemistry at the University of Rochester. After finishing my Bachelor's of Science at the University of Cincinnati, my interest in Inorganic Chemistry brought me to Rochester, New York to work for Ellen Matson's group, where I have focused on understanding the reactivity of polyoxometalates in charge transfer reactions, and how these compounds can be used to model reactions at the surfaces of heterogeneous metal oxides. A quick summary of my resume: •Completed Bachelor of Science and Master's degrees for Chemistry •Currently completing my doctorate in Chemistry at the University of Rochester, under the supervision of Ellen Matson •Experienced in Inorganic synthesis, including extensive knowledge of air-free glove box and Schlenk line techniques •Experienced in a variety of spectroscopic techniques, completed courses focused on developing an advanced knowledge of a variety of techniques, including: Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Electron Paramagnetic Resonance, and Electronic Absorption Spectroscopies •Accomplished public speaker, organized and presented experimental results at several regional and national conferences for which I have been won awards for my ability to communicate the science effectively
