About Alex Imrie
I am a classicist specialising in the Roman imperial period, graduating with a PhD in Classics from the University of Edinburgh in 2015. My primary research interests concern the Roman emperor Caracalla, the process of refashioning the Severan dynasty that occurred during his reign, and the power relationship between the emperor and his elites on the eve of the military crisis of the third century. I am also interested in: ancient historiography, especially Cassius Dio’s Roman History; Roman propaganda; Greek culture under Rome; civil warfare and conflicts during the Principate; and Roman imperial numismatics.
