Background
About Alex Jacobs
Alex Jacobs is a leader in the field of Chinese medicine, working in a governance position as the Chief Executive Officer of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC), the leading UK voluntary regulating body for the practice of acupuncture and in a clinical setting as a practitioner of Chinese Medicine. He previously held the positions of CEO and President of the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine (RCHM). Alex holds degrees in Economics, Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine. Alex became interested in Chinese culture before he developed an interest in its traditional medicine. While studying Mandarin Chinese in Taiwan he met a traditional doctor with great skill who opened his eyes to the potential of Chinese medicine. Translating for numerous patients who wanted to seek treatment from this doctor, he gradually became convinced that Chinese medicine had a great effectiveness in a wide range of ailments, including many that did not seem to be dealt with sufficiently from a biomedical approach. Upon returning to the UK, he trained in the five main therapies of Chinese Medicine - Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Tuina Massage, Chinese Dietary Therapy and Qi Gong. He subsequently formed 'Dao Medicine' with the mission both to provide first class Chinese Medicine treatment and also to empower others with Chinese Medicine self-help Knowledge. He joined the council (board of directors) of the RCHM in 2015, first working as conference organiser. In March 2020 he took over as President (chair) of the council and finally as CEO in 2023. He led the organisation through the Covid-19 pandemic and supported members back to work by authoring the BAcC & RCHM Covid Safety Guidelines. He also led the incorporation effort of the RCHM to become a Limited Company. In June 2024 he started his tenure as the CEO of the British Acupuncture Council.
