About Alex James

I seek to strike a balance between the needs of humans and those of aquatic ecosystems. I believe in making science-based decisions while being pragmatic and realistic. As a senior freshwater ecology scientist at EOS Ecology’s Marton office I undertake a wide range of consultancy and research work. In the resource consenting space I am experienced in all stages of the resource consenting process from field investigations, writing assessments of environmental effects (AEEs)/ecological impact assessments, hearings, expert consent application reviews, and fulfilling resource consent obligations relating to freshwater ecology and water quality. I have particular interests in stream rehabilitation, fish passage, piped stream ecology, and ensuring mitigation and offsetting efforts are practical and have the desired ecological outcomes. After being based at EOS Ecology’s main office in Christchurch for five years, I returned to the lower North Island in late 2014 to establish the Palmerston North office and am now based in the small Rangitikei town of Marton.
