About Alex Kaplan

I lead IBM’s global work on digital credentials. In addition, I work on the application of blockchain in support of the transition to a skills-based economy. This work includes projects with the US Depts of Commerce and Education, and the White House, on learning and employment records (LER). My team leads the IBM Learning Credential Network; a skills-based blockchain network built in collaboration with the National Student Clearinghouse, Western Governors University, VetBloom, and Central New Mexico Community College. I have a strong background in the application of artificial intelligence in support of education, training, and career pathways. This work included projects with Apple, Pearson, and Sesame Workshop. I am a global thought leader and a regular speaker on topics around the transition to a skills-based economy, the application of AI to education, and the use of AI and blockchain for talent acquisition and talent management in large enterprises. My speaking engagements have included sessions at the Harvard and Columbia Graduate Schools of Education, the IMS Global Learning Consortium, the Getty Foundation, IBM Research, Blockchain Revolution, US Chamber of Commerce, the Consumer Electronics Show, the National Institute on Cyber Education, SXSW, and many others.
