About Alex Khalil

I earned my B.S. in Pharmacology from UC Santa Barbara, where I developed a strong foundation in molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology lab procedures, and drug mechanisms. I was honored to receive the Jean Devlin Memorial Award, presented to the graduating senior with the highest academic performance in the Pharmacology major. Over the course of my undergraduate years, I tutored a wide range of courses for approximately four years. Most notably, I spent nearly two years tutoring Human Physiology and Molecular & Cell Biology at Santa Barbara City College. While at SBCC, I performed human cadaver prosections under the guidance of professors to help prepare anatomical specimens for use in anatomy lab courses. At UCSB, I gained additional research experience studying neuronal function in Drosophila melanogaster using optogenetics and virtual reality tools. I also volunteered at Cottage Hospital through Partners in Wellness, where I joined other volunteers in supporting patient well-being and assisting with basic hospitality services. Currently, I work full-time as a Clinical Research Assistant at Sansum Diabetes Research Institute, supporting patient-centered clinical trials focused on diabetes care. In my free time, I’m preparing for the MCAT and plan to apply to medical school in the coming years.
