About Alex Loo

Currently I am a Programme Advisor in the National Ticketing Solution (NTS) programme at Waka Kotahi NZTA. I support the Programme Director to deliver a system that allows travellers to pay for public transport in an easy and consistent way across Aotearoa. As a naturally curious, people-centric person, I build strong relationships across Waka Kotahi and our NTS partners, understanding their needs and working through solutions to complex issues. I am the national co-chair of the Hāpai Public New Professionals Network, and a Hāpai Public board member. In 2025, I was honoured to be a Te Tohu mō te Kaiārahi Rangatahi o te Tau | Young Leader of the Year finalist, for the Public Sector Commission's Spirit of Service Awards. This nomination recognised my work with Hāpai Public, as well as my work in the Digital team at Waka Kotahi. During my two years on the Waka Kotahi Emerging Professionals programme, I gained experience in sustainability (both operationally and strategically), before entering the world of digital, specifically UX/UI and human centred design. Prior to joining Waka Kotahi, I put the skills I gained during my studies to use in various roles, including in journalism, social media, and technical writing.
