About Alex Lyons
During my years working in academic research laboratories I have developed a particular interest in the use of stem cells to investigate the mechanisms of disease development on a cellular level. During my work in the lab of Dr. R. Michael Roberts I gained experience with a variety of techniques including human stem cell culture, fluorescent imaging, immunostaining assays (ELISA), DNA plasmid prep, invasion assays, and more. In my first independent project I worked to create two CRISPR knockouts in human embryonic stem cells, during this project I gained further experience with stem cell transfections, plasmid prep, PCR, and transfection. I have also worked other laboratories where I gained experience with recombinant protein expression, purification, and structural analyzation techniques, such as X-ray crystallography. The wide variety of my experience has allowed me to develop an ability to learn the protocols necessary for a laboratory quickly to integrate into the daily workings of the lab.
