About Alex Ochoa

Alex is a graduate from The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Public Health and specialization in Environmental Public Health. Alex's transformative journey has been influenced by personal experiences, including growing up in the South Side of Chicago. He has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to public health, public policy, and the bridging of communities, governments, and international organizations to enhance accessibility to healthcare. He has devoted himself to the study of public health and the pursuit of research-driven solutions to address health inequities. His contributions have led to presentations at the local and national level – most recent award at the Nationwide Children's Hospital Research Institute Retreat as undergraduate abstract of distinction and recent presentation at the National Diversity in STEM conference in Portland, Oregon. His academic journey has been guided by a resolute desire to become a future physician dedicated to shaping national policy through research. Alex was honored with the National Mentoring Summit Scholarship from Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. In this role, he passionately advocated for the endorsement and support of grants worth a total of $130 million by United States Senators and Representatives. These grants were aimed at establishing evidence-based mechanisms to dismantle systemic injustices and to invest in equitable mentoring and educational systems for low-income and underrepresented students throughout the nation. His efforts culminated in an internship with the White House, Office of National Drug Control Policy, Office of Public Health to address the addiction and overdose epidemic in the United States. He now holds a role as a fellow with the Congressional Hunger Center's Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellowship.
