About Alex Raffa

How does it work? From a young age this has been my favorite question to ask. I have always been determined to identify what elements make up an object and how they are pieced together. I have never been satisfied with a superficial understanding. Uncertainty motivates me to investigate further and the challenge of learning new concepts is invigorating. Growing up with the yearning to figure out how things work, I chose to study mechanical engineering in university. During the unstable job market brought about by COVID-19, I decided to add to my skills by taking an introductory Python course. From that point, I considered programming something I could pursue fulltime. I found myself asking “how?” more than ever. Every time I stumble upon a new programming concept, I am inspired to develop a comprehensive understanding using all available resources. I am drawn to software development because it provides an endless list of topics to study. Recently I completed a 12-week web development boot camp and secured a job at Modern Health Canada as a Software Developer. I couldn't be happier with my first role transitioning from mechanical engineering. Every day is a new opportunity to learn and reaffirm my understanding of well-designed software. Although I am only at the very beginning of my journey in the world of software development, I am proud of what I have accomplished so far and I am motivated to continue to learn and grow. In my current role, I am working with a team to develop a SaaS product designed to assist therapists deliver treatment to patients and manage all day-to-day business activities. We are using Angular for the front-end and NestJS for the back-end. We use MySQL for the database and TypeORM to handle database operations. In a short time, I have gained a strong understanding of these frameworks and look forward to exploring new technologies as our team expands.
