About Alex Russo

Passion is a word I use infrequently, as I believe its profound meaning confines it to sparing use. A passion is a calling, a commitment. I have found mine in the world of hockey media and writing. I started working at 13 for a small site (therangerzone) recapping New York Rangers games on nights when the owner of the site couldn’t. I soon moved on to writing for BlueLineStation (a FanSided website), which covered the Rangers, as well. Here, I wrote editorial and analysis pieces that eventually were noticed by FanSided’s head recruiter, who asked me to write for PuckProse, their general NHL site. Throughout the remainder of high school, I worked various jobs as a media coordinator, including working for JCS International, a company partnered with the iEmmys. As well, I gained a background as a nationally-ranked public speaker and was the first woman in my high school’s history to earn a place at a national tournament as a freshman. My background in writing, sports and otherwise, has complemented these public speaking skills. I completed college in 2 1/2 years at SUNY Cortland with a degree in Communications and Media Studies and a concentration in Journalism, graduating magna cum laude. During my time as a college student, I was the Sports Editor for the student-run newspaper (the Dragon Chronicle) and developed and executed a program for interviewing the NCAA hockey team (the Red Dragons) during game intermissions. I was also in charge of their social media accounts. Aside from sports-related roles, I was a Resident Assistant, Communications Research Assistant for the SUNY Research Foundation, Communications and Development Associate for a non-profit, and member of NYPIRG. I am currently living out my dream of working for the National Hockey League, helping produce articles and videos, as well as social content for the League’s international platforms. I couldn’t be more grateful for where I am or more excited for what’s next! I am a dedicated worker who never minds putting in extra hours and thrives on creative endeavors. I bring a zestful energy to every environment, task, and person with whom I work, and I am excited to continue my journey in the professional realm as I aspire to reach my goals.
