Background
About Alex Tai
I am an infectious diseases physician working in Gippsland, with a focus on public health and clinical work across a few organisations, namely the Gippsland regional public health unit, West Gippsland health and Latrobe regional hospital. Like most other medical specialists in Victoria, I completed my specialist training across various metropolitan and regional hospitals, but have always been drawn toward working in regional Australia. I have previously enjoyed working across Western Victoria, and Central Australia, prior to starting work in Warragul, Gippsland in 2019. It was during the midst of the second COVID 19 Victorian wave that I found myself working side by side with numerous other health care professionals in the newly formed Gippsland public health unit to stem the tide of COVID 19 cases that threatened to engulf the region. To this present day, I am still working in the health protection team, with a focus on other non COVID 19 communicable diseases management and public health interventions. However irrespective of how truly passionate one can be about health care and medicine, I believe that one should never lose sight of the big rocks of life, which for me are faith, family and impact. The past few years of an unprecedented pandemic has shown me that one can always strive to earn more money, or to climb whatever corporate ladder one chooses to climb (for context, nothing wrong with that) but it is "time" that is the most precious thing of all."Time" can never be bought back, but yet is the bridge to the most precious things of all in our lives like family. And that perspective for me has changed everything.
