About Alex Taylor

I am a qualified Youth and Community Worker with a vast range of experience. I currently lead on co-production in SEND for the Barnsley Local Area working for BMBC and with it's partners in the ICB. I have delivered SEND Youth Work provision for over 14 years and am still involved in face to face delivery with young people as part of the staff at Barnsley Targeted Youth Supports short breaks provision at The Ozone. Having stepped away from youth voice work delivery in my day job, I also work part time for the Yorkshire and Humber Youth Work Unit. I coordinate the delivery of our support for the Members of Youth Parliament (MYPs) from across Yorkshire and Humber, the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority's Youth Combined Assembly and the Youth Work Unit's Regional Youth Board. Youth Voice is where my passion lies. Outside of work I am Vice Chair of YMCA Barnsley, where I lead on national and international links, strategic oversight of our youth work delivery and the development of our Youth Board. In 2022 I was elected to the Board of Trustees for the National Council of YMCAs in England and Wales. This is a new challenge that I am extremely proud to be taking on. As part of my international work with YMCA I am the current chair of the YMCA Europe Nominations Committee and member of YMCA Europe's European Youth Representatives Network (EYRN) Coordination Team, having previously taken roles including YMCA's representative to the European Youth Forum and World YMCA representative to the United Nations ECOSOC Youth Forum. Having won Young Campaigner of the Year in 2021 for my work with the Back Youth Alliance and DCMS to secure delivery of the Youth Investment Fund I have experience of working collaboratively with government departments to ensure young people are not outside the room, but are sat around the decision making table.
