About Alex Tran

In my 19th year of practice, my principal focus is to provide clients with innovative yet pragmatic tax solutions that align with their business. I serve mid-sized clients to those in the Fortune across all sectors, including manufacturing, tech, e-commerce, apparel, med device, R&D, food processing and healthcare. Credits & Incentives: My true passion is helping clients capture the necessary government incentives and grants to build more California jobs and capital investments. At CALincentives, I have devoted my practice to several high-value California incentives, but namely - the California Competes Tax Credit (CCTC) and CAEATFA Sales & Use Tax Exclusion (STE) for Manufacturers/R&D. CA Competes: I have negotiated 50+ Tax Credit & Grant awards, in a broad range of industries, including multiple awards in excess of $20M. However, I am most proud that with these awards, our clients have contractually agreed to “Grow California” with thousands of new jobs and over $750M of capital investments. CAEATFA: Negotiated over $90M in CAEATFA STE Incentive funding ($1.1B of tax-free capex) for our manufacturing, alt energy and R&D clients. As one of California's most rewarding programs, this "above the line" tax incentive allows a 100% abatement from all California state and local sales/use tax. Since its inception in 2010, less than 400 companies have received CAEATFA STE awards. State Income Tax: Prior to C&I, my first area of expertise was working with clients to identify multistate income/franchise tax planning and refund ("lookback") opportunities. These services include: apportionment planning, evaluating expanding nexus rules, business/non-business income, unitary and consolidated filings, restructurings and VDAs. I am a licensed California Certified Public Accountant and member of the AICPA.
