About Alex Vargo

Hello, and greetings! As an English Literature Graduate from Cleveland State University, I adore literature in all forms. Graphic Novels? Manga? Definitely. Fiction and Nonfiction, old and new-I’m a bibliophile through and through. As such, I work in a public library and wish to continue gaining experience in this field through other public, university, and research library opportunities. Reading played a huge role in my life and I wish to continue to spread that wonder of storytelling to those I meet. Maybe even make some of those people storytellers themselves. An ardent writer myself, I have written short stories and poetry with unfinished novel ideas all over my walls. Technical writing has been an acquired skill, yet I excel at the form, reaching my academic culmination in my senior thesis, Transmission Failure: Christopher Marlowe’s The Massacre at Paris. My interest in editing and publishing led me to complete my academic project “Tales from an Old Crow,” my first editorial undertaking with my grandmother and her six, 30-year-old stories. “Octavo Filing,” a transcribed collection of school assignment-letters that my late grandfather had kept from his first students in the late 1960s, challenged my prior ideas of editing from “Tales” and honed my skills in preserving the author’s voice. Archives have fascinated me, and interning at my local historical society gets me handling accession materials that date back to the early 1900s, photographing, and cataloging them for the collection. My 7 years of work experience within different positions across different industries has improved my time management, marketing, data management/ data organizing, interpersonal communication, and planning skills all of which I have consistently used in my current occupational setting in the public library. I hope to continue to grow around books, and help those within a library’s walls find exactly what they need.
