About Alex Williamson

My goal is to work on the development of flight systems and engines for both aircraft and spacecraft. I have always been interested in the topic of propulsion, but the opportunity to be involved in the future of spaceflight is something I have always wanted to pursue as my career. I am particularly interested in propulsion systems, aerodynamics, and CAD. To help understand this topic, prior to university, I completed courses on the Udemy platform on principles of internal combustion, aerospace engineering and interplanetary craft. I also regularly follow the work done by SpaceX and Virgin Galactic. At school, college and now university, I have played for the rugby team in the second row, training weekly and playing in many extramural competitions. Outside of university, I have a wide variety of interests and responsibilities. I have always been an active member of the Sawston adult cricket team, playing and helping to coach junior members. I am a senior member of the local Tang Soo Do martial arts club, achieving 1st Gup. I have instruct lower grade members, which also helps me to develop my team organisational and interpersonal skills. In 2013 I won gold at the British Championships and followed this with gold at the European Championships at the London Olympic Park in 2014. More recently, I won gold at the 2019 British Championships. My determination to succeed has been a factor in helping me to achieve all these results. Outside of sport my passion is art, particularly realistic pencil drawings, sketching various subjects from portraits to silhouette figures. I also enjoy mountain biking and motorcycle riding in my spare time. Whether I am part of a team, working as an individual, or as a lead member, I am driven to succeed. My A-level studies and university education are providing the foundations for developing my interests further; whereas my outside interests have helped me develop the skills to work with and lead other people. My final goal is to lead the innovation and design of future propulsion systems.
