About Alex Zhou
Alex is a mechanical engineer with specialization in fluid dynamics and energy systems, known for his ability to tackle complex technical challenges. Over the past decade, he has contributed to some of Canada’s most significant infrastructure and energy projects—including Suncor’s oil sands operations, the $400M True North Square development in Winnipeg, and the 465 MWAC Travers Solar Farm—delivering measurable value and scalable impact through engineering excellence. Most recently, Alex completed a Master’s of Applied Science degree at the University of Toronto, where he optimized an ocean current turbine to perform across a wider range of ocean speeds using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Design of Experiments (DOE). His redesigned blades were successfully prototyped and tested in partnership with the National Research Council in St. John’s, NL. Now working with Portage Power in Ottawa, Alex is bringing his expertise to renewable energy projects for the nation's capital to work on building a greener future.
