About Alexa Hansen

I am currently first year graduate student pursing Fashion and Apparel Studies at the University of Delaware. Design has played a major role in my life for some time now but I wasn't always positive what route was going to choose me. I have dabbled in architecture, photography, interior design, and of course fashion. My love for this industry flourished when I discovered New York Fashion Week. I never felt more connected, my journey had begun, and I was ready to explore. Since then I have grasped many skills and techniques to enhance my innovations. My main focus is to incorporate sustainable and ethical aspects into my work. I have worked in retail, as a sewing/design teacher, and under my own name. I have developed strong problem solving skills from my years of experience facing unexpected obstacles and having to handle them successfully and creatively to meet a deadline. Since my dive into the world of fashion I have received two design awards. My first, only three years into my journey from Karens School of Fashion. I was apart of the competitive class where we made five looks from evening wear to suiting all which had to be designed with a client in made and were judged by many designers including Carlos De Moya, and Kelly Dempsey. I received 3rd in the annual show. The following year, at the UDSynergy fashion show I received 2nd in the Resource category for my zero-waste kimono inspired cardigan. I am continuing my journey by mastering skills such as knitwear, tailoring, forecasting, and pattern making/draping. My story is far from complete and I am ready to take on the industry.
